Even back-seat riders will be pleasantly surprised at the comfort. Decent amount of cargo room, plenty of rear-seat room. Yes, use the Edge the way Ford intended, and it really is quite practical. But it does exactly what it was designed for pretty well. This is strictly a utility vehicle, not one that you would take out for a spin just for the sake of driving. The engine has just enough power to execute passing maneuvers without worry, but the V6 won't impress anyone. For example, we'll take cloth over the cheap-feeling leatherlike seats any day. The exterior styling is decent, though the interior-a decent design-lacks in high-grade materials. It's quiet on the freeway, and the V6 provides decent power, but no better than decent. The chassis is firm and the ride quality excellent-smooth but not soft (again, considering the heft). The styling is good, and the Mazda 6 chassis is a fine starting point for a composed and agile, semiresponsive (considering its weight) tall wagon. OUR TAKE: As midsize utes or crossovers go, Ford's Edge is as good as any.

Her first modeling agency, and the one at which she’d see most of her success, would be Wilhelmina Models. A year later, she moved to New York to begin what would be a wildly tumultuous life and career. She began modeling in Philadelphia at age 16 in newspaper ads around the city. Her Bowie inspiration had its roots in her admiration of his open bisexuality and his fashion sense, both of which hinted at what she would become known for in the public eye. Though her parents’ relationship eventually turned violent, Gia’s home life remained intact until her mom left the family when she was 11.Īs she got older, she became part of a friend group that was obsessed with David Bowie. Gia was born on Januin Philadelphia to restaurant owner Joseph Carangi and homemaker Kathleen Carangi. When she became very sick, she turned to her mother, who had her immediately hospitalized. Our next fashion figure in Manic Metallic’s Tuesday “Who Is….?” series is former supermodel Gia Carangi. She moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where she would sleep with men for money to buy drugs, and eventually came down with HIV. Her drug abuse greatly affected her modeling career, and after being caught with drugs in 1983 at an Africa shoot, she was fired, never to be a model again. In 1981, she enrolled in a detox program, but over the next several years, she would go clean, fall back into heroin abuse, go clean again, and continue to try modeling. Photos of her in the November 1980 issue of "Vogue" clearly show track marks on her arms from her drug abuse. In 1980, her mentor and agent, Wilhelmina Cooper, died of lung cancer, and soon she turned to heroin for comfort. With fame and wealth, she quickly fell in with the decadence of the times, becoming a regular at the top, hot night spots, falling in and out of love with a variety of men and women, and moving quickly into the drug scene. Shortly after graduating from high school in 1977, she moved to New York City to pursue a modeling career, where her beauty, street-smart attitude, and coolness with a touch of vulnerability, quickly made her a top model, and she was selected for photo covers on numerous top magazines, including "Vogue" and "Cosmopolitan." She would quickly make $10,000 a day in modeling. In her mid-teens, her beautiful face and figure attracted offers to model, and her mother, thinking that modeling would help give discipline to her daughter, encouraged her to try modeling as a career. Teen worshiping David Bowie, she went to his concerts, smoking marijuana, and leading a bisexual life style. Split between two households, she felt abandoned and became rebellious as a teenager. Her mother quickly remarried the next year. When the marriage broke up in 1971, she was eleven, and her parents agreed to share custody of the several children. Born to a middle class family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where her father owned a string of hoagie shops, she was especially close to her mother, Kathleen. She was one of the first of the "Supermodels," and was portrayed in a television movie, "Gia" (1998) by actress Angelina Jolie, about her life and death.
